Exciting New Programme Provides Rapid Advancement in Veterinary and Animal Sciences

Exciting news for all aspiring vets! Harper Adams University is offering a two-year accelerated BSc (Hons) Veterinary Bioscience degree program, launching in 2024. This fast-track course provides a route to graduate entry in Veterinary Medicine programs, for those who may not be able to pursue a traditional three or four-year degree. This program provides a quicker route to career advancement in veterinary and animal sciences.

To equip students with the scientific grounding needed to progress to Veterinary Medicine or other animal-related areas, the university is providing its award-winning facilities, including laboratories, a companion Animal House, and a Future farm. Availing all these facilities students will gain a key understanding of animal health and disease, mainly focusing on animal biology and physiology other subjects such as nutrition, biotechnology, microbiology, disease science, pain biology and management, and disease control will be covered under this course.

According to Jane Thomas, Head of Department, the course is intended to provide a sound scientific foundation and practical experience for students aspiring to Veterinary Medicine. However, it also provides a variety of professional options for individuals who take a different path. Students who may not meet the direct entry requirements for veterinary schools can benefit from this course. The university successfully conducts UG and PG courses in veterinary and animal-related subjects working with important industry partners such as the RCVS, AMTRA, VMD, NOAH, and ABTC.

Jane Thomas underlined that the course will enable students seeking to enter Veterinary Medicine to find and complete work experience criteria for graduate admission. She added that, while the course does not qualify students to diagnose or cure animals, it does provide critical knowledge for those interested in pursuing a career in Veterinary Bioscience.
