IIMC Strengthens Media Research with New Doctoral Programme

The Indian Institute of Mass Communication (IIMC), established in 1965, has long been recognised as a leading institution in media and communication education in India. As part of its academic expansion, IIMC launched two new MA programmes, Media Business Studies and Strategic Communication, in August, with an intake of 80 students. Additionally, the institute has invested Rs 200 crore in infrastructure development to enhance its training and research facilities, according to a government official. These efforts reflect IIMC’s determination to modernise media education and equip students with industry-relevant skills.
In a significant upcoming academic initiative, IIMC has announced plans to introduce a PhD programme in mass communication and journalism in the forthcoming academic year. Vice Chancellor Anupama Bhatnagar confirmed that the regulations for the programme have been finalised, and the institute is prepared to take on the responsibility of offering this advanced degree. This marks a new phase for IIMC, reinforcing its commitment to academic excellence and research-driven education.
Nimish Rustagi, the Registrar of IIMC, has emphasised the institute’s dedication to advancing research in media, journalism, and communication. Rustagi also noted that admission process details for the PhD programme would be announced in due course.
