Lancaster University’s Linguistics Department Ranks Third Globally in QS 2025 Rankings

Lancaster University has once again demonstrated its academic prowess, securing third place globally for Linguistics in the latest QS World University Rankings by Subject for 2025. This outstanding achievement is further complemented by eight other subjects from Lancaster University making it into the top 100 worldwide. Notably, English Language and Literature, as well as Marketing, have earned prestigious places in the top 50, ranked 38th and 48th respectively. These remarkable results underscore Lancaster University's commitment to excellence and its continued success on the international stage.
The QS subject rankings, updated annually, evaluate the reputation and research output of over 5,000 institutions. This year, 1,747 institutions were ranked across 55 subjects, resulting in more than 21,000 entries. Lancaster University has consistently excelled in Linguistics, with its Department of Linguistics and English Language recognized for innovative research, particularly in supporting dyslexia and improving NHS services. The department explores the role of language in learning, communication, and its societal impact.
In addition to Linguistics, Lancaster University performed strongly in several other subjects, with Modern Languages (66th), Sociology (67th), Accounting and Finance (90th), and Business and Management Studies (99th) all ranking within the top 100. Statistics and Operational Research, along with Data Science and AI, were ranked within the 51-100 range. These results underscore the university’s ongoing commitment to excellence in education and research across diverse fields.
