Students Await Mumbai University UG Merit List as Competition Heats Up

Mumbai University’s Admission Process Begins: First Merit List Out on 27 May

The University of Mumbai is set to release its first merit list for undergraduate courses on 27 May, marking a crucial step in the admissions process for thousands of aspiring students. According to reports, applicants for various UG programmes will be able to check the merit list on the official university website, mu.ac.in, once it is published. The list is expected to go live at 5 PM, enabling students to review their admission status and plan their next steps accordingly.

This year, the university has reportedly received over 8.1 lakh applications across multiple undergraduate courses, highlighting the growing demand for higher education at one of India’s most prestigious institutions. With the release of the merit list imminent, students are eagerly awaiting confirmation of their placements as they prepare to embark on their academic journey. Students who have applied for courses such as BA, BCom, BSc, BMS, BAF, BMM, BBI, BFM, and others have been advised to check their admission status carefully. The merit lists will be available on official college websites as well as physical notice boards. Additionally, Mumbai University has urged students to verify their names, categories, and percentages on the merit list and report any discrepancies promptly to college authorities.

Furthermore, selected candidates must complete document verification and fee payment by 30 May. They are required to bring original documents and photocopies, including their Class 12 marksheet, caste/category certificate (if applicable), transfer and leaving certificate, photographs, and ID proof. The second and third merit lists, which are crucial for students who have not secured a seat initially or wish to upgrade their preferences, will be released on 31 May and 5 June, respectively. Each list will be followed by a two- to three-day verification and payment period.

Interestingly, some courses at Mumbai University, such as Bachelor of Performing Arts, Bachelor of Fine Arts, and Bachelor of Engineering in Printing and Packaging Technology, have received very few applications, in some cases, only single-digit submissions. On the other hand, commerce and allied courses remain in high demand, receiving over 3.8 lakh applications. Meanwhile, within the science stream, a significant gap has been observed between applications for traditional and professional courses. In contrast, fewer than 50,000 applications have been submitted for the traditional BA course in the arts stream. As students eagerly anticipate the merit list announcements, Mumbai University’s admissions process underscores the ever-growing competition for higher education in India.
