Aspiring Medicos Get Ready: NEET UG 2024 Counselling Schedule Released

Amid swirling controversies surrounding NEET, the commencement of NEET UG 2024 counselling brings a refreshing breeze of calm for aspiring students. NEET has faced various legal challenges and debates this year, regarding its application, state-by-state consistency, language preference in exam papers and the validity of examination procedure. Notwithstanding these issues, the commencement of the counselling procedure is a ray of hope for thousands of NEET UG-qualified students. Students who are seeking the information regarding NEET counselling schedule have to visit the official website mcc.nic.in. The Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) will release the first counselling schedule on August 14 for NEET UG 2024 qualifiers. The tentative seat matrix will be verified from August 14 to 15 and by August 20 at 3 pm, candidates need to submit fees and finish the registration process.


Mark the Important Dates of Counselling:

  • Choice filling and locking: August 16 to August 20 (11:55 pm), Choice locking only from 4 pm to 11:55 pm
  • Seat Allotment: August 21 and 22 and the result will be announced on August 23
  • Reporting and Joining Allotted Institutions: August 24 to 29
  • Verification of Data After Joining: On August 30 and 31, results will be posted on the MCC website.


The NEET UG 2024 counselling will be conducted on September 4, and proceed by Round 2 which will consist of 3 rounds, in addition to an online round for stray vacancies. The counselling will fulfil the admission of 15% All India Quota (AIQ), 85% state quota central and deemed institutions, private colleges, AFMS/ESIC institutes, AIIMS, and JIPMER. On July 23, the Supreme Court denied bids to re-conduct NEET 2024 in response to cancellation petitions. Rather, the original response to Question 19 in the Physics section must be reinstated in the updated result that the National Testing Agency (NTA) is required to publish. 


Looking at the revised cutoff scores showed a decrease from 720-164 to 720-162 for the general category, while for SC, ST and OBC students it is 162-127. The cut-off for SC, ST, and OBC-PH candidates is 143–127. The NTA established the cut-off percentiles, which are 40th for OBC, SC, and ST categories, and 50th for the general category based on best scores in the all-India common merit list. Results of the May 5 NEET UG exam were released on June 4, a full 10 days ahead of schedule. While preserving applicant privacy, the National Testing Agency (NTA) disclosed the NEET 2024 centre and city-specific results on July 20. The test consisted of 200 questions covering Biology, Chemistry, and Physics; candidates had to provide answers to 180 of the questions. One mark was deducted for each erroneous response, four marks for correct replies, and no marks for questions that were left unanswered.
