CHSE Result Delay Prompts Extension of Degree Admission Date in Odisha
Odisha Extends +3 Admission Deadline to 1 June Amid Delay in Class 12 Results
May 24, 2025 |
The Odisha government has extended the deadline for e-Admission into all (+3) Degree Higher Education Institutions (HEIs), including Self-Financing Colleges and Sanskrit Colleges, under the Student Academic Management System (SAMS), to June 1, 2025. The previous deadline had been set for May 20. The decision comes in response to the delay in the announcement of Class 12 final examination results, conducted by the Council of Higher Secondary Education (CHSE). According to officials, the extension aims to accommodate students who are still awaiting their results, ensuring they have sufficient time to apply for undergraduate courses.
School and Mass Education Minister Nityananda Gond confirmed that the Class 12 results will be declared within the next two days. He also assured that all necessary steps are being taken to ensure that students do not face any inconvenience during the admission process. This year, a total of 3.91 lakh students appeared for the Class 12 board examinations, which were held from February 18 to March 27, 2025. The results will be made available on the official websites chseodisha.nic.in and orissaresults.nic.in, where students can access their provisional scorecards. Original mark sheets will be distributed through respective schools at a later date.
In a related development, the Higher Education Department has advised students from the Socially and Educationally Backwards Classes (SEBC) category to ensure they obtain valid caste certificates from the competent authority. This follows the state government’s recent approval of an 11.25% reservation for SEBC students in undergraduate admissions. Submission of proper documentation will be mandatory for availing of the reservation benefits during the admission process. The extension of the admission deadline is expected to offer significant relief to thousands of students and parents, allowing more time for result processing and the completion of admission-related formalities.
Editor’s Note:
The Odisha government’s decision to extend the +3 degree admission deadline to 1 June is a strategic and necessary step. With nearly four lakh students still waiting for their Class 12 results, it would have been unfair to expect them to rush through the admission process. This move shows a degree of responsiveness that is often missing in bureaucratic decisions, and it deserves to be acknowledged. Students should not be penalised for delays beyond their control, especially when it comes to something as critical as their future education. However, while the extension offers relief, it also highlights a recurring issue: the lack of synchronisation between exam boards and admission bodies. This disconnect creates unnecessary stress for students every year. It’s high time the education departments work more closely to streamline academic timelines. The new SEBC reservation adds another layer of urgency for eligible students to obtain valid documents.
Skoobuzz thinks that clear communication and timely updates will be key to ensuring this otherwise thoughtful extension doesn’t become yet another chaotic scramble.
