UGC-NET has been rescheduled, to be conducted on June 18

New Date Set to Avoid Clash with UPSC Prelims

Jagadesh Kumar, UGC chairman confirmed that on request of Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) and feedback taken from candidates, the UGC-NET exam for 83 subjects in OMR (Pen and Paper) mode has been postponed to JUNE 18 to avoid any clash with UPSC Preliminary exams.

The UGC-NET is an essential exam for Indians aiming to qualify for Junior Research Fellowships (JRF) and Assistant Professor positions. The National Testing Agency (NTA) administers the exam under the guidance of the University Grants Commission (UGC) and the exam consists of two papers and eligibility for JRF or Assistant Professorship depends on the candidate's performance in both papers. If candidates only qualify for Assistant Professorship they won't get a JRF. Those who pass the exam for Assistant Professorship must follow the rules of the universities, colleges, or state governments for recruitment.

The date was shifted from the earlier date of 16 June and candidates must browse through the NET website to familiarise themselves with the selection criteria.

Editors note:

National-level examinations are stressful for everyone involved and exam clashes add to the stress, forcing applicants to choose between one or another. But the problem was thankfully solved and the date was shifted. This decision was also essential since the exam clash was taking place between two major examinations in India, NET and UPSC. The change has allowed candidates to appear fairly in both examinations and make the decision best suited to their career path.
