Southampton University to Bring World-Class Education to India with New NCR Campus
UK’s Southampton University to Establish Campus in NCR, Bringing Top 100 Global Standards to India

The Indian Education system is taking a new turn as foreign universities are approaching India to establish their campuses. In this turn, The University of Southampton, UK is ready to inaugurate a campus in India's National Capital Region (NCR) and offer both undergraduate and postgraduate courses, starting in July 2025. It will be the third overseas university to open a campus in India. Currently, the University has campuses in Malaysia in addition to Southampton and Winchester in the United Kingdom.
The University of Southampton holds a prominent position in global higher education as recently it placed 81st in the QS World University Rankings 2024 and 97th in the Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings 2024 which reflects the university's commitment to providing high-quality education to Indian students. It became the first international institution to acquire a Letter of Intent (LoI) under the UGC's new guidelines for establishing Indian campuses of overseas universities on 29 August, which was notified in November last year.
NEP 2020 which supports the facilitation of foreign universities starting operations in India encourages Indian institutions to expand worldwide. Several noteworthy changes have already occurred to follow these guidelines, Australia's Deakin University and the University of Wollongong already have campuses at Gujarat's GIFT City. In addition, IIT Madras opened a campus in Zanzibar, and IIT Delhi established a campus in Abu Dhabi.
The University has submitted a "10-year projected course rollout plan," according to the Ministry of Education. The following programs are enlisted in its first year of operation: Bachelor of Science degrees in Computer Science, Business Management, Accounting and Finance, Economics, International Management, and Finance. It will offer an MSc in Economics and BSc programs in Software Engineering and Creative Computing in its second year. It is intended to expand its programs to include LLB and BEng in Mechanical Engineering by the third year.
